What are Infusionsoft Tags and How do They Work?
Infusionsoft remains one of the leading solutions for customer relationship management (CRM) software. Originally founded in 2001 by Scott and Eric Martineau and Clate Mask, its signature product offers a combination of email marketing, sales automation, client management, e-commerce and more — all within a single, convenient interface.
To take full advantage of Infusionsoft and everything it has to offer, however, users must familiarize themselves with the tagging system.
Overview of Tags
Infusionsoft allows users to label their contact records with custom tags. According to the official Infusionsoft website, tags are “one of the most powerful segmentation tools” offered in the software. Users can split up and categorize their respective contacts based on any criteria of their choosing, assuming they apply the appropriate tags.
Benefits of Using Tags
If you are a newcomer to the Infusionsoft software, you might be wondering what benefits (if any) there are to using tags. After all, isn’t it just one more step in the sales process? Creating and using tags will certainly require some time and effort, but it usually pays off in the long run. If you have a list of email addresses from prospective clients’ who signed up for your newsletter, for instance, you may want to give them a unique tag to remember where they came from. Or if you have a list of email addresses from business associates whom you met at a conference or event, you can give them a custom tag as well.
Tags are designed to create narrow, more focused marketing campaigns within the Infusionsoft ecosystem. If a group of prospective customers had added a particular product to their shopping cart from your online store but abandoned it before checking out, you can give them a unique tag and then email a special discount offer for that respective product. Because they’ve already expressed interest in the product, your emails will have a higher chance of converting those users into paying customers.
How to Apply Tags to a Contact
Tags can be created in several different ways, one of which is by logging into your Infusionsoft account and choosing CRM > Settings > Tags. Here, you can create new tags and edit or delete existing tags.
You can also create tags on the fly when accessing a contact record or when creating an automated campaign sequence. When accessing contact records in Infusionsoft, you’ll see an option to create and apply tags. So instead of going back into the tag section mentioned above, you can create tags “on the fly” using this method.
Make Your Tags Unique
There are a few things you should know when creating tags, one of which is to make then unique. Tags are only effective if they are unique. If two more tags have the same description, you may inadvertently apply the wrong tags to your contact records.
