Custom Tags You Should be Using in Infusionsoft

quality survey form with red pencil showing marketing conceptInfusionsoft allows users to label and categorize their contact records by applying tags. This is arguably one of the most attractive features of the software, as it opens the doors to powerful new opportunities. Rather than sending generic promotional emails to all of your past customers, for instance, you can create custom emails that are tailored towards a narrow group of users; thus, increasing your conversion rate. But the success of Infusionsoft’s tag system relies heavily on the categories you use.

Creating Tags

You can read through some of our previous blog posts here at WeDoInfusionsoft.com for more tips on how to use tags, but it’s actually a simple and straightforward process that even beginners can perform with little effort. After logging into your account, choose CRM > Settings > Tags, at which point you can add, delete or edit all of your tags. You can also add tags directly from the contact record to which you want the tag applied.

So, what are some effective tag categories to use in your Infusionsoft campaigns? It really depends on your objective and industry/niche. However, the following tags are used effectively across a wide variety of verticals.

Abandoned Shopping Cart

It’s not uncommon for consumers to add products to their shopping cart but not proceed with the checkout process. If you have one or more contacts that meets this criteria (which is bound to happen sooner or later), create a custom tag category for them. You can then create and send custom emails with offers pertaining to the product they abandoned. Offering these contacts 5-10% off the product may be just enough to convince them to buy.

Search Engine Traffic

Are you generating contacts via organic search engine traffic? Separating these contacts with a custom tag allows you to gauge the quality of your search traffic. If you notice a high percentage of users who found your website via Google are buying your product or service, then maybe it’s a good idea to ramp up your SEO efforts.

Clicked Links

Another helpful tag category for Infusionsoft campaigns is clicked links — or in other words, users who have clicked a link in your emails. This tells you the customer is interested and engaged in what you have to sell, which usually means they are easier to convert. Focusing your marketing efforts on this demographic will likely boost your sales and conversion rates.

Refunds and Returns

Did a customer ask for a refund? If so, place him or her in a “refund” tag category. Turning a blind eye to these users is a recipe for disaster, as it can often lead to negative reviews that continue to dampen your sales for months or even years to come. A better approach is to reach out to customers who’ve returned an item, offering special coupons or other promotional incentives.
