How to Import Contacts Into Infusionsoft

Infusionsoft offers a powerful email marketing platform, allowing business owners to create, schedule, and automate customized emails for their target audience. But what if you just recently signed up for Infusionsoft and don’t have your contacts added yet? If you only have a dozen or so names and email addresses, you can manually add them by hand. However, if you have hundreds or even thousands of contacts, you’ll need to find a different solution.

Thankfully, Infusionsoft has a built-in Wizard that allows users to import bulk lists of contacts. Using this tool, you can add all of your contacts to Infusionsoft in the blink of an eye. For a step-by-step walk-through on Infusionsoft’s import tool, keep reading.

Comma Separated Value

Before we begin, your contact list must be in comma separated value format. Infusionsoft’s import tool will only recognize CSV files, so don’t assume a plain text (txt) file will suffice. If your contacts list is currently in a different file format, use Microsoft Excel or your preferred text editing program to convert it. You can even Google “txt to csv” for a list of conversion tools to perform the job. After converting your contacts list file to CSV, proceed to the next step.

Steps to Importing Contacts

  1. To import your list of contacts into Infusionsoft, log into your Infusionsoft account and access CRM > Contacts > Import Contacts.
  2. Next click the drop-down menu and choose Contacts followed by “Go.”
  3. Click the Browse button to select the contacts list file from your computer or storage device. Remember, the file must be in CSV format. Click “Next” to initiate the Infusionsoft import wizard. The import wizard will then bring up a new screen with two different columns. On the left, you’ll see the comma separated fields of your contacts list file. On the right, you’ll see a list of fields supported by Infusionsoft.
  4. Click on each of the fields from your contacts list and match them with the corresponding Infusionsoft field. This step is critical to ensuring your emails are accurate. If you match the first name field with the last name, for instance, your emails will be addressed to customers with their last name first. When you are finishing mapping your fields, click “Next.”
  5. Infusionsoft will ask you to confirm permission guidelines for the contacts list. If you click yes, you will then be asked several questions regarding this list of contacts, such as how did these contacts sign up, which email service (if any) did you previously use for the list, how many emails per month will be sent to these contacts, etc. After agreeing to these terms and selecting yes, the setup will be complete!

You should go back into your contacts list to ensure they were imported correctly, at which point you can schedule emails for your newly added contacts.

It’s important to note that Infusionsoft’s import tool can be used for more than just contacts. You can also use it to import companies, tags, products, and subscription programs.
